Consolidation Week.

Consolidation Week.

Dev Diary #6

Consolidation week provided the time for me to catch up with my studies but also continue to build assets for our game for the game jam! Having made the basic idle and walk animation for the player character, I started sketching out and building a background for the level. I made sure to draw each section of the background on different layers so that each could be exported separately and imported into the scene to be made parallax. Additionally, I knew the background would have to loop as the level stretches out so I made use of the 'file object' feature in Clip Studio Paint to duplicate the background and test how it would look looped together.

After finishing the background, I decided to go back to the player sprites and refine them further by altering the colour, fixing the anatomy and finalizing the design. As well as this, I decided to save time and make the player 2 sprite a copy of the player 1 sprite but using red instead of grey for the main colour so that it looks like a red squirrel.

As well as working on the designs, I continued to create new animations that will be used in game such as transform animations (for the player going between squirrel and buff forms), punch and acorn throwing animations and enemy sprite animations.

Next week will be the last week we can work on our game before the deadline so I will try to finish the player and enemy sprites as well as make a boss sprite with it's own animations. Our game is also currently lacking a name so once we create one, I will probably also need to create a logo and game icon for the itch.io page.
