Improving on Previous Art.
Dev Diary #12
After reviewing the art pieces I had created during term 1 for my 'Art Skills for Games' module, I remembered the mood in painting piece I had made and was unhappy with. Since I need to submit all my work during the start of January, I decided now was a good time to go back to this piece and give it another go.
I decided to start from the beginning and choose a new image. Unlike last time, I made sure to remember the theme of horror vs fantasy and decided to take a new approach to creating this piece. Last time, I tried using the gradient map but felt it wasn't effective and switched to altering colours per individual layer. The latter worked better than the gradient map feature did but I felt it was still lacking any core theme. This time however, I decided to take a slightly slower approach and re-paint the scene from scratch twice, one for the theme of horror and one for fantasy. Whilst this took me slightly longer, I felt it was a lot more effective as it allowed me to change parts of the scene to better reflect the mood I was trying to create e.g. clouds and waves.
